January 24

We had interviews two weeks ago and I was talking with Sister Call about whatever stuff, she likes chatting with me, but she was saying that President Call's mom, Marion Call has worked in the Ogden temple forever and now that its closing they dont know what she's going to do. I told her that Grandpa and Grandma Hancock had been working there for quite some time... so if they know each other it would be a small world huh.
It was stake conference, Saturday was normal conference session and Sunday they broadcasted from Salt Lake City a session especifically for this region of Mexico, Elder Jeffery R. Holland was the presiding authority and Elder Grow from the 70s was directing it. they basically told Mexico that they need to step it up and be better members and support themselves and pull their own weight.

4 points specifically were 1-the responsiblities of parents teaching their childeren the doctorine, 2-fulfilling temple covenents and working in the temples and taking out their endownments, 3- pay your tithing, a worthy full tithing, 4- and the church wants to see more missionaries from mexico. they compared statistics with the USA and Canada and Mexico and between u.s. and Canada 50% of the jovenes go on missions and only 10% of mexican jovenes go on missions or something like that and that if the number was the same as U.S. there would be between 16,000 and 17,000 more missionaris serving full time missions and stuff like that. They mentioned alot about how basically the mexicans are the lamanites descendents and need to step it up and fulfill the covenants, prophecies, and work of God.

Things seem like the church is trying to push the members to really be members and everyone work harder and better. Remember that really be members and fulfill your baptismal covenents by always being a servant of Christ and doing the work of god which is to bring to pass the eternal life of man(moses 1:39)
When Jeffery Holland spoke he started out speaking spanish really bad and said that to spare us all he's going to give his talk in english and have it interpreted but when he closed he was all emotional like everytime he talks and started bearring his testimony in spanish, but fluent and without thinking about the conjugations and translations of the words, it was cool to see. These leaders are really called of God and have magnified their priesthood authority and are guiding the church in the direction that He wants.

Help Levi help the ward and try to get all them inactives to church and fulfill your callings. and if anyone wants to send me some good bible bashing scriptures that would be cool, i can sustain myself but you know, the more the merrier!

January 17

The 15 yr old that was supposed to be baptized this weekend, the one that got his life electrocuted and his foot is burned up couldnt be baptized cuz he caught a bad case of chicken pox. yep, what an excuse. They went into the doctor and the doctor dre. says...nothing doctor dre´s dead (that frase doesnt mean anything relevant to the story, but if my friends are reading this, they´ll understand,(?) but the doc. says that he can't get wet so we´ll have to wait. This kid and his aunt and uncle have gone through so much lately with him and other stuff. But k chido that the uncle got called to be the ward mission leader, we have one now. The first meeting we had here with the bishopbric cuz there wasn't one, I asked who were the visiting teachers and the ward missionaries and stuff like that and mutual activivties and ward family home evenings and he replied theres none to all the questions. and then at church we presented ourselves in priesthood and said we want to work with them and that we want to do divisions with them (which we didn't know were ilgela in the mission until after) and then this past meeting we had, he told us that he's assigning some couples to be home teachers with the less actives and new ideas and then told us that I made him think about what they´re doing in the ward due to my insistance or something to that effect. so we´ll see what happens, huh!

We had interviews with President Call Tuesday, it went good. and what do you know, I received my packages and a few letters. I was very excited to see them all. The peanut butter, candy, usb memory and I got the package from grandpa hobbs, on the paper sheet said that there was a hat in the box but when I opened it there wasnt so maybe it got robbed. But make sure to telll them thanks and that I eat the candy while I study on those days that I'm tired to keep me awake.

Elder Villanueva is the only member in his family. his parents are divorced and the dad lives in Arizona and the mom in Mexico and he entered the church through friends and a girlfriend and after a year of going to mutal activitiees he talked to the missionaries, figured out the church is true, and a year later went on his misssion, story of his life something like that. When he told his mom he was going, she said OK if you think its right, I support you so everything is good with his family in that way. There´s another missionary in the mission that I know that he's the only member and when he told his mom she said no so a ward friend is supporting him and he hasn't talked to his mom for a year, he called the hosue and talked to brother and the mom wouldn't talk to him.

It rained this week and was really cold and it was the first time that I used the coat, it was nice, the week was rough with the weather and some other stuff but ya its all going fine here. That's great about the missionary work there in West Weber, they should push it more and baptise Eddy and his family. They should open up a spanish branch in our stake and all the mecxican return missionaries could work in the spanish ward to bring to pass moses 1:39 in Weber North Stake.

Have fun, fulfill your callings and study preach my gospel, its not just for missionsaries it helps everyone at every level in the church.

January 10th

Well here we are again writing in an internet server in Mexico. This week seemed ok in some aspects , but our numbers are low. But I am not going to base our success on numbers. My new comp had had problems with his past companion, and at this point it seems that he likes the mission again. It appears that I have special duties that president wants to see changed concerning him. He´s got a good heart, and he’s a convert for about 2 years now, and one of those years is in the mission. But I’m excited, its like we started new, my comp doesn’t know alot of the members, or anyone actually so were starting new. We are getting along well and have a good outlook.

This week was the week of the Kings in Mexico. the Rosca. you can look it up later the tradisciions but long story short I owe tamales.... and by the way in Victoria between 24th of December and the new año I ate 54 tamales.....

There’s an investigator that is 15 and is named Owaldo, there´s some problems in his family that he had to live with his grandma, but she kicked him out of the house so his aunt and uncle took him in and they are members. Before I came in they had him talking to the missionaries but he didn’t want to follow them so his uncle told him something bad is going to happen if he rejects the gospel and then one day he was working on the roof of his uncles house and somehow hit the power lines above and got his life dang near electrocuted dead and instead of falling off and dying he fell some different way that saved his life... the missionaries went and blessed him and he came home this week and we met up and he wants to listen and be baptized now. He has a big old burn mark in his foot, maybe ill take pic one day and send it, and he cant travel very well because of his foot so he hangs out at the house all day and has read the book of mormon fairley well and he went to church so we’re thinking about baptising him this Saturday if he can.

This ward has had problems in the past with bishops offending the members and one that was chasin tail so there´s not alot of help at the ward ,, so theres a lot of work to do done here, the ward mission leader doest even go to church. I want to get ahold of this new 2010 church manual in spanish some how
....and tomoro were going in to the offices to pick up some supplies so hopeflully the package is there huh?
and I finished the triplet, BoM, D&C, and Pearl of Gran Precio so I’m reading the Libro de Mormon en espanol but ya life is good I’m doing well with everything... My house is a mansion compared to the last one I was at, its like an old Victorian small mexican redition home, the lady that owned it died like six months ago, but not in the house, and now the son rents it at the missionaries, and I’m pretty sure she was a Jehova Witness, there are two of their bibles and alot of others signs that point to that, one of them is what is commonly referred to as ´´ the green dragon´´. but its cool the house is nice and things are working out. So have fun, read the scriptures and visit the less actives, ask Levi what you could all do to help out the work in the ward,

New year, New area, New companion!!

Well isn’t that lovely that you all stayed up for the new year, we stayed out pretty late, until 9:30 and went to bed but thats ok, the year before my comp told me that they had restrictions for the new year eve to be in the house at 7 because sometimes things can get a little out of hand here in Mexico, especially Victoria, but I didn’t hear too many gun shots in the streets new years, just saw the shells on the ground the next day, pero esta bien. But, guess what, after three changes with my trainer, and in the same area, I finally got the call to be changed. this elder winder had 3 weeks with elder castillo and he got changed... but they did have problems together and handled them like childeren which im glad i havent had to deal with. Now, here I am in Tampico, writing home to my family to avisarles that I’m no longer victorian, im in tampico. I loved Victoria, but I do have high hopes here. Bante is going to train another one in Victoria, we didn’t know this morning if its a group of gringos or mexicans, he just completed 13 months ayer in the mission. We had a good run.

People complain about the cold down here, that its really cold and that, but they dont know the half of it, im going to start saying that to them down here, que conocen la mitad de frio. they cry that its like ten above 0 celsius, i dont know what that transfers to but ya.

Yesterday I said bye to everyone and didn’t go home til late, really late.. people gave me little dinky regalos but I’m sure that their hearts were behind it all... my grandma Sara cried last night, and I almost did, but John Cena doesn’t cry. haha That family cooked me carne asada, and the other daughter that isn’t a member, gave my a necklace cross with the the virgin and a santo. haha

We road the bus into Tampico, it took 4 hours for some reason and it made me sick like the other times that I’ve ridden the buses for long trips. The house at which I am residing is a lot better, it appears to be an old person home, but the interior is mucho mucho better than the old apartment, except it doesn’t’ have a laundry machine or boiler. But I’m excited, I am going to have to build up my reputation again. I’m with this Elder Villanueva, he´s from Sonora and has the same time as Bante in the mission and I guess that here, people don’t make flour tortillas, its all corn, and by the way, I don’t know if I’ve said this but the ´´corn on a stick´´ on nacho libre does exist in Mexico and its very common. The corn tastes like the field corn and I imagine it is, and people love it - go figure that one.
Well I hope all is well up there with everything and everyone, I’m fine here
