I didn't write yesterday because there was no internet the whole day. There wasnt cellphone signal or internet and so we didn't have time till now to get on and send a quikck letter out. Supposedly the military took out all communication yesterday, thats what the people said and they say they do it when there´s "something up¨" but whatever.
It was nice to talk, and I don't have a mexican accent, you all just have a heavier Hick accent than what I have now, but I still got it. It's the chili pepper, beans, and tortillas that make you that way, and I like it. I am going to go through withdrawls when I go home, to not eat everything with tortilla.
We had a two hour block at church on Sunday, our branch pres. is out of town for the holidays and the card from the first presidency never got into the hands of the counselers here and so they didn't know and after a few members convinced them between sacrament meeting and sunday school they accepted to end services earlier. Hilda is going to be the new gospel principles teacher, she read the BoM before her baptism and so far has read gospel principles book, and Doctrine and Coventants, Im so excited for her, she´ll do great, really what we need in the service is a willing heart and an open mind and thats what she´s got. Marcelino was confirmed with the aronic priesthood on Sunday as well, how neat, Heston and him are "priesthood blood brothers". Marcelino is doing great, he is really taking to heart the importance of being the father to his daughter and husband to his wife that God wants him to be, its inspiring , and his little wife Simona is just content with the change she has seen in him. Today they were with us in a lesson with other members and a guy thats having problems with drugs and his childeren and Marcelino bore a strong personal testimony about the gospel and parenthood and stuff like that and the guy loved it. and i loved it.
We got a new ward missionary leader thats excited and wants to work, were excited for him and the success were having in the ward and the help from it and the progress of these converts and some other things coming up. Awhile back the branch pres. thanked me for helping him out and told me I've had a lot of patience for him and he likes it and told me I have a "gift of asking" ( maybe its the gift of being a brown noser, but it works and hes helped us help out alot of people, so it works)
We just have to love everyone and be patient with them and look past their problems of errors and help them help theirselves and others, without love and charity, we are nothing.
love you all have a great week.

Marcelino and Simona got baptized on Saturday, Pres. Call was going to come, but his mother in law came down to visit them and she got sick and they couldnt travel with her, but everything worked out, my comp got to have his first chance to baptize someone and our good brother Rosendo baptized Marcelino. I've been modifying my philosophy about how to work the mission over the course of my mission and in my last area I started thinking that we should have the priesthood holders of the ward baptize the investigators to help them excersise their priesthood as well and so that the investigators create more friendship with them, so I've been looking to give those opportunities to members and we have a brother in the ward that was baptized last February and is really excited with the work and he helps us alot with lessons and investigators so weve been asking him to be the one to baptize the investigators and he just loves it, and stays excited. we call him "brother Rosendo" cause he calls us "brothers" instead of hermanos or elders. He is actually going to be our new ward missionary leader. our Pres. Rosas is helping us out alot in the branch.
Marcelino was interviewed the same day as his confirmacion to recieve the priesthood on Christmas day and our hna. Hilda that was baptized in November that read the bom in 3 weeks already read the gospel principles book and is reading doctrine and covenants and is going to be called the gospel principles teacher in the branch. I'm excited for them, they seem like really great converts and have great potencial to be good members of the church.
We might be eating Christmas eve with a ward family that invited us to come over and Christmas day is going to be about the same. Our church is going to be the whole block, were not going to slack off like some people in the states. We already had the mission christmas party and the branch christmas party they were both great, we had quite a few investigators in the branch party and I got a letter from Heston, one that Alan Thurber sent through dear elder, and Doug and Susan Hancock, and Saren, I loved reading them in the morning and Alan's made me cry, because I know its true.
Well I can't wait to talk to you all, I suggest that you make a list because I its going to be a fast 40 minutes. and the weather out here is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, it has maintained a pretty cold 80 degrees outside, but it might chill down a little bit in January.
Love you all, I hope that with all the love you have in your heart that you can share it with others and serve our Father and help His children come unto him.

Heston sounds like he is living the life, maybe even better than those that are in high school, so Heston did turn 12 this year, When i get home, he´ll already be in the young mens program and passing the sacrament, when I left he was still a little boy and now he´s towting around his new beneli and hunting, ijoles time goes by. !!!!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SAREN AND HESTON!!!!!!!! one year older for the both of them.
Thats weird to think that Tyler and Hayden are home, if you run into them, you could say hi. Kylee will be ending in like 4 months I think, in a little more than 6. it seems as if its almost the final countdown but not really. I remember how everyone in church in elders quorum and priesthood talk about missions, and when they were on missions and then Levi came home and always talked about his mission and there were lots of times I got sick of hearing about missions, but now a understand really well why, because its the most important decision of your life that molds you to become what your going to be through the eternities. Ive reflected alot lately, and its great, there is nothing more important you could do, all the liners about missions are true, its the best thing that you can do. I was reading in Mosiah 4 about how after being forgived of your sins, you have to serve others and God if you want to keep the remission of your sins, and if not, you cannot keep it, its impossible. There's so many miracles and things that happen that I couldn't write it all and its how you develop a faith for the truth that cant be broken. I love it
I've thought alot about the deal with Jake, I personaly would like to be home for a month before he goes out so then he could be like my first ´´son´´ to train when I get home.
We're going to have the baptism of Marcelino and Simona this Saturday, and Pres. and Hna. Call are going to come down to watch it and on Friday is the ward christmas party and Monday our mision christmas party for the zone.
Its a wonderful time of year, and a great time to serve others and to give back to our Father for everything that He has given us.

Dec. 7
Well what do you know, its Wednesday and im writing a letter again. Im still here in Tantoyuca. I knew one of us was getting a change and the arrow landed on Elder Beltran we had a good time together, he´ll be a good missionary. I went into Tampico on Friday, there I was acompanied by Elder Cook, and Elder Willmore, we had a small special training meeting with Pres. Call about Training other missionaries. There were 14 new missionaries that came in on the change and Pres. wanted to inform us a little about the program he wants us to train the young blood in the mission. the three of us got new comps fresh out of the oven from la CCM. My new comps name is Elder Fernandez, hes 18 and hes from Mexico State. By the way one of the worst parts of the mission is going on the bus rides and getting road sick, Tampico is 3 hrs from here.
We commited Marcelino and Simona to be baptized on the 17th, they´re going to be married this weekend or the first part of next week so they´ll be ready. We've taught them all the lessons and have memorized 7 or 8 scriptures in the book of mormon and are reading in 1 nefi 17 ish and have gone to church 5 times, theyre super excited, Marcelino has changed alot. The power of the Gospel is incredible when we allow it in our lives.
When we went to Tampico on Monday, the bus stopped in Panuco and I saw that my trainer Elder Bante was there sending another missionary off to Tampico, so I got off and talked to him a bit while we were waiting to leave, he is endinng his mission. Actually he got permisison and called me today after he had his interview with President Call, he´ll be home for Christmas this year, he´ll be home tommorow. He actually commented to me that one of our converts in Victoria is going to be getting married in January ish, and sealed in the Temple, shes marrying a return missionary that came home from the mish while we were there and was dating her and they waited the year so that she could go through the temple. I´ll be so excited to be able to attend.
The Branch council chose who the less active families theyre going to work with so theyre getting pretty excited to get on the plan here and gettin er done. And we didnt know that the christmas devocional was this weekend so weve watched and listened to some songs today in the internetd ciber. The phone call will be one of the days 24th 25th or 26th id prefer 24th or 25, maybe 25 more than 24 to call on the sunday. were going to have our zone christmas celebration the 19th in Huejutla with Pres. and Hna. Call. I love christmas time its awesome.
I love you all, you should come up with a christmas gift that you could give to Christ, like repent of your sins or something, or read the BoM before christmas or activate someone, or give up an addiction of diet coke or mtn dew

Nov. 30th
We had a good week, Ive been reading in the Teachings of the Prophets: Joseph Smith and Ive liked it alot, I{ve been really focused lately, I've loved it.
I complete 17 months today, which means I have 7 months left to be a full time missionary, thats weird, I imagine that when I go home it will be like I never did leave the house, but not being the same person I was speaking spanish. Its weird to think that even 50 year old madres change and have improvement in their lives, let alone 20 year old niños.
Marcelino and Simona are progressing well, they almost have all their paper work worked out for their wedding, I dont think that they're going to recieve the elaborated wedding as of the one in WW3, but they´ll be married and later make and the eternal covenant of baptism with God, thats what counts. They´re so excited, This will be the best thing they've ever done in their lives, its going to be completely changed spiritually and socially and economically. Hilda was talking with them in church, and being new convert doesnt understand everything but has a good idea about the Gospel and she´s telling them now that they need to be baptised and go to the temple in a year to get married by the church so she can see como se casan en la Iglesia. I feel as if they are my children, we tell them to do things, read things, and they do it and they look at us as if we were their lighthouse in the dark sea that theyve been sailing. Hilda is bringing her son to church and wants him to be baptised, and he does as well , its just a question of geting the lessons in and he reads and goes to church.
We have the first Branch Missionaries that Tantoyuca has ever seen, and a few are really excited to work and to get things done, we're gaining confidence with the Branch Pres., hes been supporting our planes and actions and says hes going to help us out with the plan that we made for the converts and menos activos.
Im just scared that changes might take me away on monday, and I´m not going to see all the fruits of my labors, but if not, its fine, I´ll trust in God that it will all be for good and that the work will go on here in Tantoyuca if Im here or not.
love you all, read your scriptures and have a great week.

November 23
Hello family
We had an alright week, we are starting to see more activity from ward members, they're helping out more, were excited that a while back we made the ward missionary plan for the activation and retention and the ward missionary leader liked it and we presented to the Branch Pres. and he approved it and it will be coming into effect this next week, weve been preparing a few things for it and see how it goes.
We have another little couple were preparing for baptism, we need to marry them first and we are still on that. The guy is 23 and has had a really rough life with drugs and alcohol and gang activity but now has cleaned up alot, in the two or three weeks since we taught him the word of wisdom he drank a beer and said he felt really bad about it but thats a huge change in itself for him with how he was before, its amazing to see the power of the Book of Mormon in the lives of others when they read it, him and his wife read it well, and theyve gone to church 3 times and go to the rama activity were they put on videos of the talks from general conference in the church and they really like it all. The guys name is Marcelino and his pareja is Simona and they have a little cute 3 yr old thats named Lacy Areli, and she is so happy and they really want her to grow up in a better environment than what they've seen, and theyre fighting for it.
We're encouraged to teach 1 inactive family at a time in the mission because there are so many everywhere n the mission and there´s a little inactive guy ,Rosendo, thats about 55 ish thats been a member for 20 some odd years, his girls served missions and they and his wife are endowned but hes always been inactive. The wife feeds us every Tuesday and little over a month ago we just started teaching him, he´s gone to church and he started reading the book of mormon now and started from the begining and is now reading in Mosiah 15 ish and is activating and saying hes got to endure to the end because "he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints" Hes the only inactive that I've taught in the mission that seems to have a sincere desire with the actions to reactivate in the church, I'm excited for him he is a really nice guy.
The Gospel changes lives, the mission helps us gain a real testimony about it and the Book of Mormon, through real close up experience, thats what im grateful for, like in the "Teachings of the Prophets Joseph Smith" says that we should be happy and honored to have the privelage to be tried and suffer for the Cause of Christ, because thats how we gain our salvation.
Im not so sure if anything will be done for Thanksgiving day, I might buy a snack or eat an orange like Elder Cook and I did last year. We had a leadership training meeting with our zone and the President Call and assitantes and I talked a little with Elder Cook about the football boys.
love you all

November 16th
Our baptism worked on Saturday it was great. There were quite a few members there some hnas gave some talks and we sang a special musical number and their is a young teenager in the ward that is really good at playing the guitar and he played the guitar and we sang nearer my God to thee. and Hilda shared her testimonio after and it was awesome to the point where she was quoting scriptures from memory in her testiomony. She has a son that is 19 his name is David and he went and really liked it and she has been asking us things about the mission cuz she wants to send him on one, and we were in the hallway and she asked us with him there present if he were to read the homework we gave him how long it would be until he could be baptized and i said the most soon would be 3rd of december and she said well, we´ll work on that and he shook his head yes. she also has other references that she wants us to teach. Im so grateful to have known her, everyone is asombrado over this experience, the misionaris in our zone, and even Pres. Call about how she read the book of mormon and guia de estudio de las escrituras in a 3 weeks. So thats a planch for you all being members, you all that have been members all your life and its hard to read the book of mormon in a year, she read it in three weeks and works full time is a teacher and has 3 kids.
We have another couple that were preparing for baptism, were going to marry them here in the next week or two and they'll be ready. They complete really well with their compromisos and go to church quite a bit.
and yes im recieving the missionary updates. shoes are holding out, and clothes as well.
i just seen Elder Cook on Monday at the zone conference, he's doing great and he talked alot about the football, I imagine he's going to try to convince me that it was a cheat that Fremont won, but good thing you told me no. Jake just needs to be humble and pray alot and read the scriptures to know how to win his game, thats awesome that hes doing so good and that Fremont is winning. Isn't it interesting that now that the old coach left and now Fremont football is starting to be better each year since. It's like the book of mormon, when there's crappy leaders, theres crappy results that is one of the many things I'm learning on the mission. There's so many things that you learn if you accept the will of God and study and work its like im not even the same anymore.
Well I love you all have a great week,
bye

Send a letter for Christmas
To all of Sam's friends and family, he would like to hear from you for Christmas, he has sent out a request that instead of receiving a package this year, he would rather get a letter from everyone! So please help my little orphan missionary have a good Christmas, he just wants to know that he is remembered back at home haha! Also include Tucker on your list for writing a note, missionaries love to get mail!!
November 9
Thats awesome about Fremont and Syracause, and on Friday at the U, I hope Jake is really excited and realizes that he is never going to play high school football again, we only get once in a lifetime opportunities every now and then, so he needs to play hard and get excited and excite everyone else, be an example and hit hard. We just went to have a meeting with the zone leaders this pass week and Elder Cook is a District leader in our zone so I got to see him again, Ive really enjoyed seeing him in the mission, he´s a great Elder. He likes to talk about the high school football and was commenting that if the two teams won, they would play each other. thats cool. And on Monday were going to see each other again in the zone conference so were going to have to use the gift of discernment and prophecy to figure out who won on Friday. haha.
That’s cool about Alex, I can’t imagine it that he is already going on a mission, time goes by fast and I guess we all get old, I feel old sometimes, and when I know or meet someone my age, I feel like an adult like I’m older and wiser its weird.
We have our miracle lady that is getting ready for her baptism this week. We have our investigator Hilda that lives 20 min outside of Tantoyuka, we meet with her in the church, and she is going to be baptized this weekend, God has worked with her I think than cualquier otro investigator. She already read the book of mormon after less than a month, and almost all of the guia de estudio de las escrituras and is giving us references and teaching her kids at home (we dont know them yet) and already has her own progressing investigator her son that is reading the book of mormon and saying prayers with her, and hes 19, and told us she would like her sons to be missionaries. I was worried she might not have been ready for this weekend because two citas fell in the transcurso of our teachings that we didn’t see her and kept her on track to be ready, but she always comes back twice as strong with less doubts and this time we had to teach tithing and word of wisdom and she had already read about it in the guia de estudio de las escrituras and accepted it. It is like God has indicated her to read certain parts of the book of mormon and she tells us the book teaches us about our own lives and we should applicate it so we can be blessed, we haven’t had to tell her,she tells us. She also has had lots of problems with bad spirits in her house and really bad experiences with it and was panicked one day about it and her progress of being baptized and we gave her a priesthood blessing and yesterday she shared with us that she didn’t hear the words I said but felt a peaceful power feeling and something that made her feel that we truly are sent from God and hasn’t had a problem since. Its almost so unbelieveable her progress and her experiences that I almost don’t believe it. She is so sincere and has had a really strong desire to be baptized since the day we put the fecha. its amazing what God can do with his children and that even though hundreds reject, he has his chosen and knows who and where they are. She amazes me and makes me want to be better. This experience is strengthening my testimony and I’m very grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity to serve our Lord and to have been the missionary to help guide this lady and all the other people I’ve been able to teach and guide. I know that according to our obedience, love for people and use of practicing the principle of doing the small and simple things is how God will make miracles.
So what do you think about the Christmas package deal, that you send me cards instead?
Love you all read your scriptures, invite others to come unto Christ , serve others. and love all

November 2
Today is the last and grand finale of the dia de muertos, its quite interesting, it looks and sounds like lord of the rings but with more fiddles and more modern costumes. I'm going to try and take pictures. They go around in groups being all dressed up in some way and they dance when people pay them to dance. They build arks in their houses and put out their offrendas for the muertos that whoever can come by and pick up the food.
We had a few interesting experiences this weekend. Our golden investigator Hilda, we didnt see her for 11 days and when we finally got in contact and talked she had read 270 pages in the book of mormon and really liks the church alot and is excited to learn and grow and be baptized. Our district is really really improving, were all picking up the pace and desirous to achieve our goals this change. We found a couple that has a little cute girl that is a really interesting experience, I'll have to talk about it later when there is more time, and they are excited to learn and love the church already.
love you all and have a great week.

Good week, how is everyone? Yes, this is Halloween week, I imagine that you might have taught the fifth graders about dia de muertos but what you dont know is what they do here in Tantoyuka. its called Xantolo, pronounced chantolo. It all starts on the 31 and goes to the 2nd of November, they are 3 days that the streets here in town are filled with people and satan is let loose, like the hundred years after the milenial with the exception that the people here aren't so righteoous to withstand his cunning temptations. colonias get together and pratise dancing and musical performances and they go do choreographic dancing things in the night time, and give food to the muertos, some put on masks and costumes and dance and some masks are made out of wood and are like mystically structured by the hand of the devil and the last day, the 2nd is the last and they rock it off by getting really drunk and partying until the next day and they all take off their masks to see who was wearing what mask. and during this time frame supposedly alot of homosexual guys dressed up as girls and go all over the plasce and also some and the worst part is that some people dress up as missionaries with ties, and fake name tags and carry around books of mormon but on the inside they put pornography or somethin bad. thats what members and other poeple have told us what they do, so we´ll see what happens. They tell us that we shouldn't be out later than 7 or 8 and that Wednesday we might as well not work because it wont be productive so we'll se what happens.
We had an alright week. I think im getting a little more use to how to work here in this town, in preach my gospel ch. 9 says that there are different ways to work in different areas all over the world and this place is alot different than my beloved Mante. We're getting used to things, we got another brand new elder in the district and my best friend Branch President Elder Willmore got a new comp that he says seems really good and were all pretty excited as a district to see what we can work out. Its cool to think about the circumstances that were in as a mission and zones and areas. There were some missions in Mexico that baptize 250+ in a change and Before President Call came, our misions nickname was Mision Mexico TanFrito instead of Mision Mexico Tampico for the disobedience of the missionaries and problems with missionaries and members and its been an interesting change to come to pass, obviously really slow. I heard a rumor once things use to be so bad that at one point there was 4 baptisms in one change in the entire mission and the old Pres. got mad and things started out rough with President Call when he started but in the first part of my mission as a mission was baptizing about 70 for change and it has gradually gone up and now is moderating about 130 for change so in a little more than a year it almost doubled and about all the older missionaries that were bad have gone home and the older generations that were effected by them are going home and i think as a mission is being purified and becoming better. And some times working with members is a little rough because sometimes they have a bad impression of missionaries and don't understand our purpose so we got to help them understand and still be loving doing it. sometimes we just dont realize how much a tiny change make a difference in our lives, be it for good or for bad. It's like salvation the road is straight and narrow. one degree off tract may seem like nothing at all but in the end its impossible to arrive at the same destination where you would want to go. Thats why the closer and closer we can come unto the will of God to follow what He would want to do is how we can glorify Him in the eyes of the people. If we as members could just comprehend the importance to do the little things like read our scriptures, say family prayers, go to church, do family home evening and love other people, Gods Kingdom would imensely grow and quickly. but most are unbelievers and place other things of lesser importance in place of what our Father would have us do. our natural man is the only thing holding the Work back. But the church as in a whole starts with the change of one. One person that changes, and that good influence can spread until all are excited and work. but if one doesnt change, he or she cannot expect others to change. I hope all can figure that out, to be examples set aside our sins and run the race placed ahead with patience, with our eyes placed in the author of our salvaiton, even Jesus Christ. May you all remember these things that for small and simple means, God can make great things come to pass. love you all and do it.

Well I love you all , I'm so happy for all of you and how well its going for you, I had a pretty cool week, we had interviews with Pres. Call, I did divisions with my friend Elder Willmore it was fun, he's the branch president out there. Elder Cook sent me a little tarjeta letter to me that our moms know each other and that his sister works at mom's school. thats cool, he´s a really good Elder. Im glad you are doing FHE so that you can become closer to Christ and more united as a family. Small and simple things bring to pass great things. We have a miracle lady that is very chosen and wants to be baptized and loves the church after going once and reading a pamphlet about the gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm happy for this time in my life and am very convinced that we need to analize every little decision in our life if its going to take us to the celestial kingdom or the misery and cautivity of the devil. Elder Beltran is doing well and progressing well and getting use to the groove of things.
love you all and do well

That's awesome about Jake and his Fremont team that they beat Syracuse and are going to the playoffs, hopefully they can pull that one out. How many active members are in our ward? This is something I've wondered for a while but have never asked. Here in the rama there are about 80'sh actives, and suposedly when the number goes up to 100 some odd or more with priesthood holders and tithing payers the rama can be divided. that would be cool. I think its really possible, we have a great ward misionary leader, he´s really humble and nice and I think he would do about what we tell him, and a few other members are startin to get excited to work and magnify their callings.
I'm starting to know the area a little bit, and Elder Beltran is starting to get a hang of things doing the work. The people here are really closed alot more than Mante, the people in Mante were really open, here not so much, so it takes a little more effort to do the work here. We've been learning a little bit few words in Huastecco, its the native indian language from here in this area, not alot of people speak it, just people from smaller pueblos and ranchos outside of here.
And how are my friends doing these days? Kylee, Mitch, Cole Jake Hayden and the crew? I'm going to try to send some cards off here in the next month so I'm going to send them to the house and mom can give them to Levi to hand them out or personally get in conctact with them or their parents and send them off or whatever. Now that we have extra time on P day, I just might write some cards, We´ll see what happens.
I've been reflexioning alot lately, and I feel like the time is going by really fast and what I got to accomplish I got to get er done fast cuz there aint much time. Im very grateful to have come on a mission, I believe that I'm personally living and experimenting why the mission is so important and what it means to find yourself losin yo-self. I've learned so much, its unbelievable, its preparing me to be what God wants all of us to be. I'm learning what it means and how to be succesfull in this life. I don't think I could've understood so fast or so much what it means to be like Jesus and what the Atonement really means our lives. It's like what King Benjamin says in Mosiah 5:13-15 that basically the only way to become more closer to our Father is to serve Him and to know what He wants and to know Him. I just hope i can stick it out being a witness of Christ when im home and always like Pres. Eyring talked about his experience and was crying in General Conference. I have no idea what i will do when i get home as far as worldly things go, i just know of things that i will not do.
Have a good week

Thats awesome that you could meet Ortega's family in temple square. I called Elder Ortega this morning about a few things and he told me that you all met each other, thats awesome, small world. Conference was awesome, I loved it, all the speakers talked with authority. Carl Cook looked a little nervous up there for his first time, but his talk was good, its better to look up then down. There is new news about Elder Ortega and I, we were wondering the whole time together about why we were together and the reason came, we got a call on Tuesday to hear that we were getting special changes, he left to Aldama to a threesome and a new elder came in and I’m going to train him. He is from Obregon Sonora his name is Elder Beltran has about 4 years in the church and its his first day here so I couldn’t write yesterday, I was in Tampico all day. because he was the only elder coming in. I got to go to the airport with President and Hermana Call and the assistants to pick him up and we went to the mission house for a snack, to the offices for capacitation and the mission home again for dinner and more capacitaions. We got to stay over night in the mission home then Hermana Call made us waffles for breakfast and had a little more capacitation and Pres. sent us off. While I was in Tampico, I got immigration things worked out so that I wont ever have to go home again, I stay here in Mexico I’m Mexican now, it cost a little bit more to get the double nationalitiy than to just have the passport and I accepted it. (just kidding). but I did do immigration stuff in Tampico, so I’m legal to be here for one more year, but the dual citizenship is what actually happened to Elder Ortega the Beloved, cause he was born in El Paso city by the Rio Grande as Marty Robbins would sing, and when they worked out his passport they just made him a dual citizen, cool huh.
So now I’m here in Tantoyuka, I’m basically new here, with my new comp and were about at ground zero, so were just looking up. I was going to send some more remarks about conference, but I cant remember, basically repent, do missionary work, prepare to go on missions and do yo thang like our Father wants us to.
Well I love you all have a great week, you don’ have to call the police now that I answered the email

SLC Visit with Elder Victor Ortega's family
New P-day Sept. 28th
I have 15 months in the mission. That's 9 months away from West Weber. You all look about the same, Jake a little taller, and Maisie not such the little girl she was. I think I've sent more fotos to you guys then you send me, but good thing that you finally sent me a picture of the family, I'm going to print it off even though jake and heston are in their scout uniforms but its been about 15 months that everyone and their dog asks to see a picture of my family , but Elder Hobbs doesnt have any, and the pictures on the camara that I have that Maisie took at the last minute before I left the house don't include Saren or mom. Levi is crazy, the ward missionary leader with long hair, maybe he was a little more worried about looking like Christ instead of becoming like Christ ha ha PLANCHA. West Weber seems like far away but not really, and I think when I get home its going to be like I never went away, the same little town, same people, same house, same cows.
This week was alright we found more people, we have a ward missionary leader that is excited and were teaching him how to do the missionary work some other members are getting excited to work and serve. This week is the General Conference, we are all excited, but we have to travel two hours to get to the transmission and were going to be there all day Saturday and come home Sunday after the afternoon session. it will almost be two days without working in our area, its going to affect a little bit of some progress, but its life.
I dont know if I ever told you all about our new study program in the mission, we have dvd players with dvds that are additional lessons to Preach my Gospel and we can watch the videos for our training and practicing to be better teachers, its so crazy how the advancement in technology can be used in the Gospel, its been about a month that every companionship in the mission has a set of these training videos and dvd players.
We go to gym everyone morning, its cool and this city is all hills, its hard cuz you have to go up and down all day, they're like hills like the 12th street 1900 hill , but steeper and when you go down one you have to go up another, I think im going to lose some weight here and have steel thighs.
Well love you all have a great week and watch general conference. Elder Ortegas family is going to go to conference this weekend you should meet each other, I'm going to send you the email address of their family or someone and you guys could go down to Salt Lake and meet them or go to dinner or something.
Watch conference and put in practice the teaching of the Prophet and his Apostles and you will be blessed!

Im here in Tantoyuka, Veracruz. This city is small, and there s alot of ranches outside of the city. The people here are more indiginous, they're more native and there´s alot more native sculptures, leather work and basketry stuff. All the other places I've gone is basically new modernization, but here is still a little more authentic. Theres alot of hills, hills hills hills you go up one to go down to the other to go up again, there is no flat area. and it makes life a little bit harder. Its been pretty fun to be back together, weve been reminiscing about the good ole times in el Mante the people the area the good times. I think it has helped me to go with Elder Ortega, so I haven't been so homesick of my ward and families in Mante. President Call wrote us both this week that he doesn't know why he put us together but he felt good about it, that we were together. we live in a building on the third floor and above us is a gym, and its the only area in the mission that its permitted to go to gym, so I might be able to huge again, lifting weights, we went this morning and it was weird being in a gym after 15 months without going. I didnt quite know what to do.
Mexico celebrated their independencia day, it was cool, there was a ward activity in the church, alot of food and actually a good number of people showed up. an hna. in Mante sewed Elder Ortega and I a tie of the Mexican flag before I left, they re good loooking. There were fire works in the noche and we live right by the main plaza of the city so they were blowing off in our house and i figured out that there arent laws about fireworks and firesafety. They were launched where everyone was at.
Yesterday was my second time this month talking in church, i talked about a few experiences that growing up on the farm alongside grandpa helped us know and understand grandpa more than others could have and how its the same with our Father in Heaven, that in his service is the only way to come as close as you can to Him and to understand His plan and our true purpose. We went to the house of an investigator this week, but she wasn't home and we taugth her 17 yr old kid that supposedly has had problems being rebelious and put a fecha with him and the next day we came back to check the compromiso and he had read it really well and liked it and when we ended the lesson the mom showed up and the grandma and they had made us food thats called ´´mole´´ its a food that everyone makes and is supposedly for special ocasions and when we asked why they made us the food the grandma told us that her grandkid has rebelled but now hes changed and is listening to us. it was funny. But I know that God wants His children to come unto Him and that he is the Master of everything going on, He just works according to our faith as His children.
We had some other really good experiences this week, as well as bad ones, but I'm excited and know we can do alot here in Tantoyuka. Pday is going to be on Wednesday instead of Monday starting the next week so dont call Pres. Call if you dont get an email until Wednesday haha. Supposedly there's going to be alot of new changes in the mission, but the zone leaders havent told us all of them. We're living here 4 in the house again and there is an elder here from Arizona named elder Merril and has a I don't know how many greats grandfather and maybe its great grandma Sarah´s dad who knows, he knows the name of the guy, its like Filemon or some f name.
well have a great week and love life, and serve God

I changed areas, after 4 changes in ciudad Mante. I'm in Tantoyuka, Veracruz, which might be part of Big John Nuttal's mission, who knows? It's really beautiful here, with lots of hills and lots of hills. I left Mante at 10am and got to Tampico at 1;40sh pm and the next bus didnt leave til 3:20pm so I was with the financial secretary that is from Lehi and we ate McDonalds and left to Tantoyuka but didnt arrive until 6:40sh and had a few minutes to buy food and then go to a cita and ya, thats why I didn't write yesterday. Today we had the district meeting in the morning and we ate and went to the doctor because Elder Murga gave me his throat infection he had last week and I'm on some medications right now, but I'm good, I'm not too bad off.
I'm district leader again here, and guess who my companion is? Elder Ortega. I was stunned when they told me the changes on Saturday that after two changes I'm going back with him. Aint no mountain high enough that kept us from being apart, haha. But its cool, we got along really well and we already know each other really well and were both really excited for it. This is a rama here, it sounds pretty good.
I got the package, thanks alot. And the letters that I wrote almost a year ago in Victoria were never sent off so I just gave them to the Hna. Call a little while ago to send them off through the connection they have, and she must have sent them home with Elder Remund when he left, because hes from Missouri. I dont write letters, I don't quite find the time to do it. I loved my time in Mante, to tell the truth i felt like a King there, we owned Mante on our bikes, I knew hundreds of people there and saw some miracles and was part of alot there. in 4 changes we baptized more people in that time frame than all of last year put together. I have felt like I have become closer with our Saviour and alot better person and alot was due to experiences there in Mante. I know that God is preparing His children to come unto him, its his desire mas grande like it says in moises 1:39. The time is going by fast, Mante seems like it was a dream that already went away and I don't even have a day here and thats how it seems. We have a short time here in this life and not to much time to waste it doing things that dont tiene chiste. Alot of members and converts thanked me alot and said alot of cool things with changes in the ward and their life, it was really cool to know I was part of it.
The kids at home seem little and they shouldn't be in that stage of life of highschool they seem younger and younger every year, the highschoolers. That's awesome for them, they need to enjoy every moment of it cuz time flies and its too short to not be happy. Help others come unto Christ invite them, a small invitation isn't going to scare them or make them think less of you and tell the missionarie s you want to work with them and ask them how you can help.
I love you all and have a great week

The baptisms went through really well, Ana and Monica could be baptized and the other companionship had another joven that was baptized as well. The service was really good and it was a happy and great day for them. The week was alright, we were really uptight about the baptisms for Sunday. I did divisions with elders in a branch about an hour outside of the city, it was alright. this week I'll do diviisions with the zone leaders, maybe Elder Goff before he goes home.
Thats awesome about the baptisms in WW3, like the first convert baptisms I've ever known about in the ward.
I havent got the package yet, Pres. Call comes up tomorow , maybe it will be there. Im eating good, I actually started getting fat a little while ago so im trying to loose it and doing push ups every morning and listening to Acts in spanish, the regular routine.
its week 6 and its my fourth change here, is really probable I wont be here next week, but I could do another change here in Mante, i really like it and i know there is alot of work here that God wants us to do.
Have a great week, love one another and read your scripures

We had an alright week this week, we found some new people and have two baptisms planned for next week, a mom and her daughter, the mom sometimes as little attitudes that remind me of my own mother and little kwirks and comments and attitudes that she has, this lady, Ana, has changed alot, we found her last change and in el principio she was kind of rough on us and never opened up to express anything, her daughter is 17 and has loved everything about the church and the book of mormon but the mom has been a litttle stubborn, theyve gone to church about 5 times and the mom finally started reading in the book of mormonr 3 weeks ago and doing her prayers and God has worked miracles with her softening her heart.
I did divisiones with the other missionaries in the ward, it was cool to see what they have going on and to show a few pointers, today im going to go out to do divisions with a companionship that lives outside the city in a branch. Elder Goff only has a few weeks now, its crazy to think i knew him about a year ago and hes already going home, the mission has gone by fast , im completing 14 months tomoro so theres only 10 left. its been pressuring me sometimes the idea but also helping me work even harder to think that the time is short and i got to get as much in as i can.
have a great week love you all

This was a trying week. We had some great things that happened and some not so great. We put baptismal dates with two investigators that have gone to church a few times. We had a conference this week in Valles and we were gone about all day, we got up at 430 and didnt get home til 430 in the afternoon. Pres. Call talked alot about planning and the importance thereof and its like what dad wrote me about planning on the computer makes it easier and it goes faster, thats like a good planning session if you can plan good, it should go better.
We are still on the bikes, I'm going to have to buy a new tire because I've about worn it out and the tube got a hole in it, were pretty extreme with the bikes. I helped my comp write on his helmet a while back in english, ´´Im not scared of the bikes, the bikes are scared of me. Hot Wheels lead the Way´´ Elder Remund went home to St. Louis and will start in BYU at school here in the next while, its weird imagining he is in his house, Igave him the address to the house and told him to visit you
all when he gets a chance. Well this week will be better I'm going to start divisions this week with the district or maybe next week. love you all have a great week

´´Que te parece, (estoy) fine fine fine, very good very good very good.´´ thats a song that just about everyone knows, and when people ask me how I am I tell them that with the same mexican accent that the singers of that song say and the people get a kick out of it. I'm feeling extremly well and doing so as well. This week I got to go into Tampico for a capicitation Wednesday and Thursday to learn how to be a better teacher, we were in the classroom with Pres. and Hna. Call from 10 am to 5pm every day and in the night working with other misioneros. I felt like I was in the mtc all over again learning learning learning, it was fun. The traveling there wasn't, but it was good, I have alot of things I can do better.
There's promise that was made to Elder Ballard when we was a mission president by a 70s that if every missionary made 10 contacts a day, to get their direction and teach them later and apart from knocking doors, that the baptismal numbers would duplicate in 6 months or something like that so Pres. Call started that about a month ago or more, but no one has takin it serious but recently he has pushed it alot and the first of this week we decided it was time to put the hammer down and give it heck and we started off good, and then I went to Tampico and the numbers went down a little but we decided Saturday night that we had to at least achieve 100 contacts for this week so we had to do 34 on Sunday and we got in 35 and I feel like that may have been a turning point in the mission to help us realize that if we commit to something and put our faith in the Lord, everything is posible. There are so many children of Our Father that are waiting for us, we have to be the ones that go out and do it because members of the church are scared to talk to people about the church. They don't fulfill all of their responsibilities, even though D&C 60:2-3 clearly says that even what you have will be taken away if you are not more faithfull in opening your mouth, so we, as Elders of the House of Israel have to do it. And I love it I really feel strongly that if we do our part everyday, that the results will come to what Pres. Call has in vision, to have a baptismal service every week.
This week we have Zone Conference in the city Valles and thats where Elder Bante is as the Zone leader so we´ll see if I get the package or other mail. have a great week, I loved hearing about the dead calf and the fair, hahaha it would be so typical. I love you all, do you part in the Lords vineyard, be loving and smile, and if not, you really have no hope in this life :)

.... the next changes wont be until 12th of September, so I'm going to last more time here in Mante, I came here the end of March, the time has gone by fast, but yet sometimes its seems long ago...and there aren't too many sister missinaries in the mission, maybe ten, but they keep the sisters in safe places, or more safe places and Mante is not included on the list of safe places for the sisters, people always ask us here if there are girl missionaries because they've never seem them, because they dont get sent here amongst the Gadianton Robbers. But i love this place, I've loved being here and seeing the progression of investigators and converts.. God is a God of Miracles and He wants His childeren to follow the gospel and asks us, members of the church, to be the ones to help them out. Thats awesome for the work going on at home, you all dont realize the greatness of what is happening with those families to help them know the gospel and go to church, its opening the pathway for alot more individuals to find the truth as well, maybe their family members in Mexico next or the ones in Utah but the fact of the matter is when we complete the links, theres always another to be completed until all have had the opportunity to recieve the gospel and have had a baptism. its Gods Will and it will be done, but the sooner one can figure it out and participate in the Work, the more blessings one will recieve and more faster will get done the work. May God bless you all to understand the importance of sharing the Gospel and help you keep on keepin on.

Let me tell ya that it was a week here in Mante. Its been fun, I love it here, I could live here in Mante I think. The thought has crossed my mind a lot , I could live in Mexico, I think Iwould like to find a job that allows me to live here but make money and doesn’t involve drugs and actuallly today we went to another weddin of investigators of the other companionship of the golden reference I found for them that will be baptised next week. It’s a miracle that God is working with His children, if you don’t believe in things like that its because you don’t know the Gospel of Christ or you don’t’ have faith like it says in Mormon 9. I sent some pictures.... the first day we started using bikes and it rained on us and we came home extremely wet and dirty, but then a strange thing happened, it started raining every day and we came home everyday wet and dirty.... then when I had my bike in the shop once, they borrowed me a bike that I used for a day, its an old timers bike and I really liked it and I felt very classy and would ride it with the posture as if I were and English Man, I enjoyed riding it..... pictures from the baptism of Gilberto, the boyfriend of Karem, and Luis, Karems brother and I were demonstrating ´´the double´´ baptising the two at the same time.... the other picture is Luis and Chikis, Chikis is 15 and is down syndrome and showed up at the baptism with his football helmet on and took pictures with it and doing the John Cena hand wave, and I still hold the belt as John Cena here in Mante, even though i have lost weight and about half my muscle stature. Chikis is Luis and Karem´s brother and He is my favorite friend I think, I love going to their house and talking to him, he´s extremely out of hand, but its getting to the point that he does what I tell him to do more than his own family, sometimes, I love Chikis, he´s got a sweet spirit. When we show up at their house he always yells and I thumb wrestle and arm wrestle him and he always wants to go at it until he wins but even when I don’t let him beat me he yells that he wins and puts his arms in the air histerically like it was the world championship .......... The other picture is from the talent show night that we sang the four of us in the ward combining various hymns and putting it into one, and this picture was when I was doing a hillbilly stomp dance in the song, there was a part where we sang part of put your shoulder to the wheel and I about knocked my companions over when I put my shoulder knocking them down, maybe I got a little excited being on stage.... and the other pictures are my of my ingrown toenail that i got cut open on Thursday, the doctor is a specialist, but i felt like he got a little happy cutting and about cut the the knuckle of my toe digging the toenail out and then cutting out the root of the toenail and stitching it back up, it bled for two days and he said that is normal, that it bleeds lot with the procedure he does, hey put me on an antibiotic and hes going to take the stitches out on Wednesday and he says its looking good, He’s checked it a few times afterwords and right now it actually isn’t bothering me extremely like in the begging. I’ve been walking and riding the bike with one shoe on my left foot and a sandal on the right because i cant put it in my shoe yet. but im expecting to be back to normal pretty soon, it hasn’t kept me back too much from working. so last year before the mision it was one side of my left foot big toe that was operated on and this year, the both sides of my right big toe. crazy.
I’m staying here in Mante again for the next change with Elder Murga still, I´ll be district leader for this change, Elder Remund goes home like the 20th of Agosto, to go to BYU again. I don’t know if I wrote it last week, but I think a huge principle I’ve learned in the mission is that it is impossible to be truly happy without following the Gospel or being obedient to what God asks of us, impossible.
Well have a great week, read your scriptures every day put God before the TV and he´ll bless you all more
love you all

Pioneer Week
Thats cool about the float. Yesterday for the 24th of July we ate in the house of our converts huevos and chorizo con frijol and then we watched The Legacy with them, it was cool. its been along time that I've seen it. I noted that the people in the movie said alot of quotes from doctirne and covenants .
Today we were in the store eating ice cream and other misioneros from our zone came in and one of thems name is Elder Teahan from Sandy Utah and hes going home next week, its weird how fast time flies by. actually he says hes going home for two weeks and then he´ll be up in Logan going to Utah State for the fall semester and already has everything set up. and then Elder Goff has one change left and there's another misionero thats named Elder Remund that is from Missouri thats going home the 20th+ish of August to go to BYU, I'ive been living with him in the same house now for 3 months and it'll be weird to see him go home. and actually in the mission theres quite a large number of missionaries going home this end of the change and the next and theres not hardly any new misioneros coming in, so there will be some areas being closed down. I guess the youth of the church didn't hear Pres. Monson in general conference when he said that every joven with the capacity to serve a mission is called to the work. or maybe they heard but arent choosing eternal life (2nephi 2:27) or they're taking thier time to go to work. but the fact is Time is going by I'm already going to complete 13 months.
God is bringing to pass a marvelous work and is willing to do it, if we can learn to be dedicated in following to precepts which have been established by Him, i would hope that all take heed to what has been said, and fulfill the responsiblities that have been given to us, for it is the only way to find true happiness and peace of mind, through our Grand Mediator.
love you all and have a great week reading scriptures and visiting the people lacking faith and going to church

July 18-Mante
No, you dont have to worry about me finding myself in a zoo on pday, that is that pday doesnt really exist in our mission. We have from 10 to 4 to try to get everything done, washing the clothes, writing internet and doing the grocery shopping, and cleaning the house... we really have no time to do anything else and alot of times we dont get all of it done in one day. We dont do much more. Actually I've never gone to a museum or ruins and that, the most I've done is go iceskating in the winter time.
We had the two baptisms this weekend, it was nice. It was the baptisms of Karems 13 yr old brother and her boyfriend Gilberto. I baptised him, and not thinking about it threw him in the water pretty hard and then the thought came to me that he´s pretty big sized so it´ll be hard to pull him out of the water so as I threw him in I tried lifting up hard also and the other misioneros were the witnesses and said that it looked like he jumped in and out of the water and had the expression on his face like he didn't know what happened to him. Theyre both excited to be in the church and follow Jesus. Karem gave a talk in the baptismal service and she has a pretty strong testimony and is very sure of herself for joining the church and is very excited for her brother and boyfriend. Then afterwords there was a talent show in the ward and it was funny, everyone was all excited and serious. We four misioneros participated in the activity by performing a song we called ´´remix misional´´ that is a mix of verses of hymns mixed together in one.
The time is going by extremely fast.

July 11th - Mante
We had a pretty great Sunday in church yesterday, 7 investigators and two have dates for this weekend and the church was pretty full. The gospel principles teacher wasnt there again so I taught the class about faith and action tying in principles of Mateo 7:21-27 ish of the difference in between the two houses and Juan 15:10-14 or 13ish and participating in the atonement through our actions of obedience and doing what is asked of us. I've ben reading the new testament and Doctorine and Covenants and have really enjoyed the two hand in hand.
That's awesome about Maisie and her softball, that shes playing so much and having such great success, who would of known 5 or 7 years ago that she would have become so great, and have had developed talents like that. I think its an eternal principle that all should be aware of is our own personal potencial, like the talk of Elder Uchtdorf in the last conference, that with practice and with time is how one learns and becomes great, and something that I'm trying to learn is the virtue of patiently waiting for the success.
I have already learned that principle and the talk by Richard G Scott "the sustaining power of faith in times of uncertainty and testing he talks alot about that aspect that when we have faith in the Lord but things dont quite go our way it helps mold us and better our character and basically it makes us more Christlike and closer to Him. and actually what its done is taken away alot of my pride and made me feel more love for everyone. Just last night I was thinking about who I was 3 years ago, 2 years ago, 1 year ago and right now, and its crazy, my knowledge of the gospel, my attitudes, way of thinking and treating people has miraculously increased more closer to how our Saviour would want us to be. And I speak spanish and teach in spanish I really dont believe I would've wanted to be sent to any other place, I dont know if I could do it, well I could it would just take a year like it has.
Well they sprayed some numbing spray on my toe and cut it out, I almost could have done the same thing, and they didn't give me anything just suggested to put iodine on it so I did and its healing fine. it wasnt that cool. You all have a great time and should follow the counsel of leaders and have family home evenings and invite less actives and non members and have familiy prayers and everyone should be studying the scriptures, and if not, your not really following the plan God has prepared for us to be successfull and bulit on the Rock in all forms. and read the talk of the first presidencye message about ´´im comiteted´´ and think what that means to be commited to the gospel and DO the things that are required of us, this could be a family home evening lesson for today, idea given from me, bye¡!

4th of July - Mante
This has been quite the week here in Mante. There is so much stuff you can learn and do in the mission that you cant do or learn any other place. I got my ingrown toe nail yanked out on tuesday, it wasnt the same, or as intense like the one last year they took out. and then they gave me a pedicure in the same package, which was admitidling cool. We started out on our bikes Tuesday for the first time, and by the way we are the only ones here in this city with bike helmets and everyone laughs at us, ´´los insensatos hacen burla, mas se lamentarán´´ and it rained hard and we came home really wet and dirty , and then it happened again Wednesday and then the hurricane came in for Thursday Friday Saturday and took its leave Sunday. Yep, you all weren't to worried about your precious son in Mexico experiencing the hurricane weather in hurricane season. . all tied up with parties and the fourth of July. hahaha . no it wasn't horribly bad, where we're at it just rains alot, and actually the river flooded and houses were feet under the water but we survived, just wet all week. The hurricanes come in every year to flood the cities, instead of a flood every 30 years in West Weber like uncle Blair predicted. It actually gave us some service opportunities to help the people and hopefully that will soften their hearts more to prepare them for the gospel. We had some cool experiences and some others not so cool. and yes i got the package last monday and opened it up on thursday, thanks for the beef jerkey, its good, that farr west peppered jerky is pretty good. and Karem the convert bought me a cake and we ate cake at her house in the night to celebrate my one year out.
I actually had a dream last night that the mission was over and we were all home and Loren and Austin and I were waiting on Chase and Paul from the ward to get home and they said how they miss the mission and I was crying because I felt lost and wanted to go back. I think thats my prediction for the the next fourth of July, 2012.
Have fun and be good and preach the gospel

June 27- Mante
It was an alright week. Elder Murga is a lot different than Elder Ortega, but I feel like we understand each other better, as in habits way of being or train of thought. He is 22 and was in the mexican army for a little while, when people asked me what happened to the other comp and whos the new one i tell them that he Ortega went the new place and this is my new comp elder Murga, he was a soulja but now he ´s one of Gods Soldiers! I think he gets a kick out of that.
We had a some what rough week finding people and that. and my toe got infected again and i callled the hna. Call and she told me to go get er fixed already and stopped waiting to see if i can do it, so tommorow were going to go check it out what the docotor says.
were getting ahold of some bikes, we took one home from a member last night thats going to let us borrow it, it only needs a chain and a seat and a tire, and then Karem and her family is going to let us borrow one that they dont use, but i think its in better condition. Were actually working with her family a little bit more, her brother thats 13 will more than likely the first one to be baptised from them, and the dad is starting to warm up to us a little more now and were going to try to teach them all.
Arnoldo is a 26 yer old that has 3 little girls and his girlfriend took their kids about 3 months ago and left him because hes been so bad with drinking and that and weve been teaching him for almost two months and has progressed alot, he was going to be baptized last weekend but the day of the interview we showed up and he was drinking with his friends, it nos desanimò but he still wants to quit and change his life. i like teaching and talking with him because he reminds me of some few people i know back home and he has a small ranch outside of the city that he goes and works with his dad and it always makes me laugh to see him dressed up in his work cowboy attire and to think thats what we wear back home on the farm.
I love this place, even though its not that pretty and doesnt have much, except for alot of problems, President Call has called our zone the pride of the mission because it has completely taken a 180 degree turn in the past two changes than what it has been.
have a great week i love you all and give a shout out to Grandpa Hobbs for his 80th birthday from the otherside of the border.

Happy Father's Day
Yep, if i remember right, about this time last year I was in California, or Cole and I were making plans or something like that. The point of the fact is the time does go by really fast, its something amazing and scary and pressuring, to even think what will I do this time of the year next year, that the half of this escapade is already about there and the 2nd is always faster than the first. What I've learned is that we need to have an overall goal, to know of the future and be confident in it, but be focused in the moment of what we are doing to accomplish the thing in this moment, its like a phrase from Pres. Monson that I read a little while ago is that it doesn't require perfection but a steady consistent effort striving for the perfection.
Today were changes, my companion Elder Ortega was sent away to Tantauca, Veracruz, maybe that was an area part of Big Johns mission and I have another comp that is from the same generation as Elder Ortega, his name is Elder Murga. I've always been bigger than my comps by a long shot, but this elder might be bigger than me. He came in from a city called Valles and my trainer Elder Bante is a Zone leader there and sent me a tie with Elder Murga for my mision birthday for completing a year that was nice.
We had a huge upset this weekend, Friday night we were going to have an interview with and investigator that was going to be baptized and he was drinking outside of his house, it was like a nightmare seeing him drinking , and the day of the interview. It broke my heart to see him like that after the two weeks that he hadn't been drinking and how excited he was to be baptized and everything. But this chamucillo siempre anda and I imagine its how the pioneers felt a few times that just when everything started looking like there was hope, a blizzard came in, or had to cross a river another obstacle to climb. The life can be hard but you ´´just got to get back up and give er´one more ride sweat and blood it takes all you got cuz the road to heaven is a he[ck] of a ride´´ and it can be very true but also a beatiful ride.
Were going to focus in more with Karen's family, the girl we baptized in May, to complete the family and we have some references from some ward members that are looking great. We also need to find a house in our area, we've been living outside of the area and with two others, and one shower, its hard sometimes and we were going to look in to finding some bikes.
and lately ive been hooked on making liquadosof oats banana and milk for breakfast. I really like them, but yea its an adventure everyday, i love it
have a great week bye

June 13
Thats too bad for Lamar, he was my home teaching companion for a little while in the ward, If I remember right, there´s an old country song about all my country hereos are gone, or something like that, Rusten would know what it is, I think its a Willie or a Waylon or Hank Williams song, but thats how I would feel, he will be missed. That is awesome that Valorie was here in Matamores, I think its a few hours away from here. And that's awesome that your memorizing section 4 Heston.
This week was pretty good. We put out a fire on Friday that was burning in the field across the street from where we were teaching a 15 yer old kid. The field was up in blaze and there is a little house in the middle and the fire started and when we noticed it got out of hand we ended the lesson, ran over and used the neighbors water and buckets to block out the fire from the little house in the middle. We saved the house and the field and some trees burned up and after the house was protected and we stopped worrying about it, the fireman showed up and we looked around and saw that all the neighbors in the community were watching, and watching the 3 of us save the house, a teenager and me and my comp, no time to bother helping us. That kind of upset me, to know that everyone knew but wasn't worried about it. that goes along with the idea of service. Then in the night, a member found us and drove us home and there was a car out of gas near a gas station that a young father was pushing into the gas station with traffic all over and his wife and kids in the car guiding it. I asked the member if we should stop and help, so he did and we helped him push it into the gas station and left. The member told us a story about a comedian who joked that when we dont want to do something, we close our eyes or something like that and expressed to us that thats how he felt at first when he saw the guy pushing the car, that he wanted to close his eyes and drive by, until we helped him open his eyes. That is something that sometimes we dont apply in the life. all around us we see, physically with our eyes that people need help, but sometimes we dont see with our hearts, to realize that equally they are children of our Father in Heavan and He loves them just as much as He loves us, and that His childeren need help, but thats how he can help them is through us. The sooner someone learns that principle in their life, the sooner they will be blessed and all of Gods childeren.
have a great week, bye

I read in the last parts of the book of mormon this week, and in those the most powerful chapters of Ether 12 and Moroni 7, i encourage all to read those two, and really focus on Moroni 7 about the correlation between the faith and hope and charity, and basically you cant have one without the other and if we end our days without charity we wont have much hope to recieve the highest exaltation which God has for us.
I tell you these things because its what I've learned more about this week, the importance of being humble, and charitable and patient and that gifts are gifts and aren't necesarily earned as we would desire or imagine, but are given in the debido tiempo del Señor... I think that I developed lots of pride playing sports and growing up in the environment in which I did, and it has played a role in the bumpy roads that I've had in the mission, and maybe if I could rid of it, there wouldnt be so many bumpy roads to humble me down... but with the bitter times, it makes you appreciate the sweeter moments.
.. and yes im eating well, and I drink enough water, I maintain myself well, I started getting more concious about my health a little while ago, I bought a fat sweat belt to go around my waste about a month ago, and I think its worked, and I try to eat healthier. I'm taking care of myself so if you could all take care of my truck that'd be great.
love you bye

School's OUT for SUMMER!
...well here we are now, 11 months ago I was dropped off at the mtc after mom packed my bags while I was down in the shed talking to Blair and Levi and Steve. Dad had to come drag me in so I´d get showered and ready, its hard to imagine it, it seems so distant. Thats good your having BBQ, I've been craving some BBQ but it doesnt exist here, I found some BBQ sauce in the store but haven't used it, theres nothing to use it on, and theres not enough time to cook some meat in the house, everything is busy day after day, studying, preparing, teaching and doing it over and over there is no time for anything else. The church is starting a new program/course that they're making to help support more with the Preach My Gospel and supposedly its to be so efective that a newly arrived missionary after the 12 week course would be prepared to train another newly arrived missionary and so our mission is trying the 12 week course out.. right now its just a draft of the program because the program requires tvs dvds and stuff like that, which we dont have. The trainers will have access to watch these dvds when applicable whatever day in the week cuz theyll have tvs and that. its interesting.
I complete 11 months today, I'm almost half way over, its soo weird because sometimes it seems like an eternity and sometimes it goes by like a dream.....that's why you got to echar what you can so that there arent any regrets. It's the mission, its the life, and im quite sure thats how Grandpa Hancock feels too right now, sometimes an eternity and a lot of times in a blink of an eye. Well have a great week love you all and look out for that rain.

2 weeks of May
May 23,
We are still together, which is good, we get along well and are doing well together, Elder Ortega is probably my favorite companion I’ve had in the field. We had zone conference Wednesday it was awesome, we watched a talk that Jeffery R Holland gave in the mtc in January, it was great and powerful like all of his talks when he gets emotional talking about missionary work. There are so many things that you learn in the mission if you open your eyes and your heart, like they say and which I do believe, that you learn the same amount in 2 years than being a normal member could learn in 20, you learn your real purpose of life, even though everyone says that "knows" the gospel says that, but if you havent served God, you dont know the "real" purpose of life.
I am very complacido with the missionary work Maisie is doing, I give her a shout out. and I expect to hear more from all yall. We found quite a few people this week and put a few baptismal dates, when President gets an idea, he has it until its accomplished and we’re all still fixed on the idea to baptize every week, and what President’s new vision is to start baptizing 500 every change before the end of the year, and it would be realized if everyone baptized at least 1 a week and right now the last change as a mission we baptized 126 and the change before 138 but that is about double than it was a year ago, President Call is tearing the mission up, they used to call it the Mision Mexico Tanfrito instead of Tampico for how bad it was about two years ago and before that, and he has changed it about 180 degrees and improving it more.
But ya its awesome, the life is awesome and God really has his servants working in his vineyard for the last time, and wouldn’t it be great if everyone was on board doing their part. Well Maisie so far is the winner of sharing the gospel, the little girl is beating out everyone at home, I expect things to change and pick up there, stretch forth thine hands to those who are low in spirit and bring them to church. and I love you all have a great week, and be grateful for the water, everyone here in Mante are complaining how hot it is and how there isn’t any rain.
love you all
May 16
Yeah sometimes I do get caught up in hitting the homer, and that basically the concept that president has been telling us to do for around the last 3 changes-ish, that we just need to be consistent, finding people and staying obedient and planning our time better to bring to pass all the necessities the people would need to be baptized, but its great.
Some of the things that have marveled me the most about the mission is the greatness of God, like the book of mormon says in the first page that its here to convince the jew and the gentile that Jesus is the Christ, and later I read in the morning in 3 nefi 24 ish that God will start a work so great that the Gentiles will have to believe in him and if they believe in him and repent and all that they’ll be counted into the fold, basically, and its true, God is working to prepare his children to recieve the Gospel, and that’s what he wants, its his work and his glory, so that his children can return with him. We had two people that found us this week and want us to teach them and one of them told us basically that he wants to be baptized because it would save him and his family being split up, which is the truth. Its awesome every time God gives a little blessing like that, that he puts his children in our camino and they tell us they want to acercarse mas con èl. God is great. its like your song ¨the wheels in the sky keep on turning¨ The wheels of God keep on turning and is going on and on and on and....on , as Children we need to figure out who we are and what we are doing fulfill our purpose in this life to help others and when we help others , we help ourselves because we prepare ourselves more to comparecernos antes de Dios, so its great

After "the phone call"
Ya it was fun to talk, its fun its all fun and great... Thats great for all the people up there getting on with their lives having a good ole time and gettin er done..Today has been gone by real fast, we had to go drop off missionaries at the bus station cuz its changes and then we went to do a service project for 2 and a half hours breaking up a concrete patio with and iron rod, that was my task, like the iron rods that are used on the farm to clean out the mud and the dirt on the disks.. it was ok, I have a bunch of blisters on my hands and my missionary clothes were all dirty and sweaty but we broke her, and then the family gave us eggs and chorizo gorditas, it was good and then we cleaned the house for almost 2 hours but yeah, thats about all we’ve done so far today... in church we had 92 people, and that is the most there has been in there for a long time, there were alot of investigators its been really awesome, the Lord blesses us when we follow his commandments, and are faithfull and diligent.

Another Great Week!
Thats exciting for everyone, I love you all and hope that you all are being anxiously engaged in good causes. I will call this week it will be cool. I love to hear about everyone and their life, its so fun isnt it?
Yes its amazing how the Lord does His work, its always His way first of all, and not ours, but the way it all works out is like gears rotating, it all fits into place, we as His children just need to figure out when its the right time on His watch to turn one gear, which makes all the difference with the other gears that are hooked up in place with it, thats a principal I've learned on the mission, when i was in the mtc, and last night that I was pondering about some things it was equally the same way, events that have happened in my life, whats going on at home and what I've seen in the lives in some people here in the mission and what I'm seeing right now with the people we're teaching, its awesome. God is working His "great and marvelous work" and its in action. Everyday we approach closer to the end and whether its in 2012 or in 3012 it doesnt matter, what matters is if we have "our gears" in alignment with the Will of God so that everything falls into place and we accomplish what He wants us to accomplish and we fulfill our duties and our potential that we can become, this idea of "dont tell me what to do" does not and cannot apply in this case if we want to return to live in gloria with the Father or if we want His blessings.
A few facts I've figured out in life, like mathew ch7 says not everyone will return with God only those who follow the Will of God, and so what is the Will of God? The Will of God is that we follow his comandments, that we keep ourselves unspotted from the world that we read the scriptures, go to church every Sunday and renew our covenants magnify our calling fulfill our duties in our callings ,,do our visiting teaching invite people to church give the missionaries references BE HUMBLE AND LOVING ... all the seminary answers, is the Will of God. so we will do it all if we want to be blessed and return with Him. so its a little importante. What more can i say, these are my feelings and desires that I´d wish everyone could fully understand. Have a great week.

Flooding in West Weber
Well we had an alright semana. That’s awesome about Levi’s motorcycle, now he won't have to waste so much money driving up to school everyday, he`ll save money now. maybe he`ll start out a little under, but will come out on top saving money, right Levi? cuz a country boy can survive.
That’s too bad about the water. The flood is compared to the gospel, we need to have a sure foundation to build upon, the Rock of Christ like it says in 3 nefi 11 and in helaman 5, I think, about the rock of Christ, the importance building upon it so when the "floods" come and the gates of hell open up we wont be swallowed. or the comparison Alma makes in Alma 32 about the plant, if seed isn’t nourished enough or planted in good soil the seed wont grow good roots and when the sun comes out or the flood comes in it will be washed away or fried and the seed will die. That is the importance of being constant in the gospel and doing all we can to help that the plant grows strong roots, the importance of daily scripture study, daily prayer, going to church every week, even when we are tired, to partake of the sacrament and renew our covenants and do everything in our power to help others grow their roots, visiting teaching home teaching visiting everyone that doesn’t go to church and help them go. If we don’t study to learn constantly and we don’t serve God, then we can’t be saved, its simple Mosiah 5:13-15 and DC 58: 26-29 that’s where we as members need to learn our purpose in the "body of Christ" and do our part, and if we don’t, we won’t accomplish much DC 107 :99-100... and if you don’t invite others to come unto Cristo, God will take everything he`s given away from you DC 60:2-3. Everyone needs to wake up and realize our duty to God, and if we follow our own "will" or another will, we won’t return with Him who created us Mateo 7:21 and the will of God is doing his work, so get er done
con amor
