April 18th

Sounds like a lot of excitement in the 801 and all having fun. .. This week was alright done here, we had a baptism, his name is Jonathan, 15yrs, his mom baptized about a month ago and he started going to church and has really liked it, we taught all the commandments but 2 of them Friday night so he could pass the interview before his baptism that was at 12... so ya, sometimes i still have problemas with having to do it all at the last minute and pulling off the d--- miracle at the last minute, kind of like school. It was rough, we're planning better now so that doesn't happen again because it was very stressful, and these aren't grades in school, its theyre salvación.

Thats awesome about Saren, she could write me por internet if she has time,
My companion is from Juarez Chiuahuah hes 18 and was born in "El Paso city, by the Rio Grande", just like old Marty Robbins says and is a citizen, but has lived most his life in Juarez. He understands about everything in English, but is scared to talk in english cuz he´s shy to make mistakes. He´s a good kid, we get along well
Well have a great week!

Saren is on her way home!

I’m excited for Saren, her life is going to be so weird I couldn’t imagine going home and being in society así otra vez. I’ve written her the past few weeks she’s been a great example to us all. I don’t want Saren living in my upstairs room, and my stuff taken out and put some where else, she can rent the downstairs room, but if there’s no other option, at least change the bed sheets and pillows. (Silly Sam!!)

This week went pretty well, I had to get up at 5:00 Sunday to get ready for the day cuz we had walk to the house of a member to wake him up at 7 so he could pass by the house of an investigator soon enough to get to church at 9.. and then we had to go to the opposite side of the area to pass by the house of an investigator around 8 to grab a bus and make it there by 9 too.. it was busy, but worth it, that’s where the aspect of personal sacrifice works in, that¨´ giving up your own life you will find your life¨´ Its been a little while that I haven’t gotten up around the 5 o clock milking hour, and with all my heart might mind and strength I could say that I’ve NOT missed it. Haha

We´ve been doing pretty well, I´ve felt really well this week, we found a few good people and had 4 at church and a baptism planned for next weekend, I really feel like the Lord is pouring out blessings here in Mante, President told me and has told others that this zone is about ready to explode with success and I have confidence in his words and we are finding what seem to be really great prospects.
Have fun pray and read the scriptures and give service to the Lord
Love Elder Hobbs

Sam in Mante

Well the week has been alright, we found a lot of people and here in Mante the people accept us more and we put some baptismal dates in the first lessons so it’s gone well. This area has a history of problems, about all the misioneros that have been here have been bad and the ward attendance was about 30 or 40 until Elder Young got there a little while back and now its about 70 so were going up. I’m really excited about it all supposedly there’s hundereds of members in the ward but hardly anyone has come to church for a while. President made them change houses the day that I came in cuz supposedly the other house had problems and bad spirits and the misioneros that have entered when they’ve arrived usually end up getting problems so we moved houses and pres said the work wont start til we get moved and when it starts its going to go off like a bomb, that Mante is ready to explode with success and I feel like it really is, we’ve already seen fruits of our labors and we'll have some baptisms here in a little time. We had four investigators at conference it was cool, and yes I watched in English, except the last session with Jeffrey R Holland I sat with the investigators in Spanish but its all good, I liked it.

My toe is getting better and I hardly have a bruise from the dog bite, and yes the ring of fire card came. Elder young’s comp, Elder Alvarez is Cole Quartuccios twin brother, they look exactley like each other and have similar mannerisms, its fun it makes me feel like my little buddy is with me. Get Cole to send me a foto of him and I´ll send one of this missionary and we´ll compare them ok!
I have 9 months as a missionary. The movies that you sent of Joseph Smith is only in English and that doesn’t help investigators much!
Some members are more willing to pull their hand cart in the snow than they are willing to talk to their friends or coworkers about the church, how about you all work on that one OK?
have a great week bye,

March 28th

Its just about the final countdown for Saren, I´ll have to send her a message. This week was extraordinary. It started out slow, and then Tuesday in the morning I got bit by a dog at the house of a investigator, the dog was asleep and we didn’t see it until it woke up and started barking at us and my comp ran away and I was holding my ground and wasn’t going to back down to it cuz it appeared to look like a blue heeler and it bit me right below the knee cap and then the lady was all sad and felt bad and took the dog away and got out alcohol and cotton she cleaned the wound for me, It was just teeth marks, it barely broke the skin and it didn’t pierce my pants so I´ll be fine - hopefully she´ll be baptized

Then Wednesday was one of the best days that I’ve had in Tampico, we found a couple that is ready to find the truth and will be baptized, and it was a great day, and when we got home at night I called Hermana Call to tell her I got bit by a dog, just got over the cold I had over the weekend and that I have a nasty ingrown toenail (on the other foot than the one I originally had before the mission) and what I should do, she told me to mark the assigned doctor and go in and get it taken care of but I told her I would rather operate on it than someone else and she gave me some instructions of what I could do to help it so I’m following that right now.

And then Thursday in the morning while we were studying President Call called me and told me I was getting re-assigned immediately the same day to go to Mante so I packed my bags, he came by and picked me up I hung out with him for a little while in the day, I ate subway with him and his wife and he dropped me off at the bus station and sent me up here. It was fun! I guess there had been problems with a missionary that was training a greeny so he took him out of there and switched him with me and put the missionary with my old comp Elder Palestino. So now I’m here in Mante, walking around in what feels like an oven. It seems alright, the area is alright and the people seem great, there´s 4 of us in the ward Elder Young and his comp Elder Alvarez, my new comp Elder Ortega and I, Elder Young is the district leader, He´s from pleasant Grove and is a wrestler, actually he wrestled Trae Bennett one year at the state tournament, and his comp and my comp are new and just completing 2 months in the mission. Its great, we’re all getting along well and the changes are today, Elder Goff is coming in to Mante to be our Zone Leader so maybe I´ll see hím around, and Elder Cook is out in a Pueblito and is in our district so I´ll start seeing him on Mondays again, that’s been funny that we´ve basically been seeing each other all of our mission and were comps in the MTC.
So time is going by fast, I hope Saren is fine and does well, I was just thinking about Dan Atkinson the other day and figured he´d be home, tell him hi from me and write me a note.
Have fun and be good at home and read your scriptures and visit people that don’t go to church bye

Duck Hunting

I’ve realized that the mission is alot like duck hunting, that you have to wade in the water and walk alot to find the hot spot to blast them ducks, but alot of times it seems that we’re in the muck up to our knees and you can barely move and the a miracle comes and all of a sudden your walking on dry land and then it turns to muck again. The life of the mission! We need a good air boat so we don’t have to walk to find the hot spot to find the escogidos and maybe the book of mormon could be the Beneli super black eagle 2 with camoflauge.

We went to the temple on Saturday, it was different with the temple and in Spanish, but I liked it alot, it was nice. Later that day I got sick, and had been sneezing and a runny nose 24/7 until today, I just feel weird and slightly tired, but its life. Sounds like life to me.

Last night we were contacting a reference and a borracho pulled in with his truck and started calling us ninos and saying a lot of bad words and then told us to come in and told all his family members in the house that we are missionaries from God and if they don’t want to listen to us, then it means they’re listening to the devil instead of God, and he wants us to come by his meat shop today so were going to see what happens. tenía mucho razón.

I just really hope your all trying to help others at home, the less active members and people that aren’t so they can come unto Christ and be saved. They`re real people that need the gospel just as much as you all do so be the instruments in Gods hands to provide the way for them to come unto Christ and be humilde and amorosos and tenga caridad, sed uno, y si no sois uno, no son de Dios, y tampoco si no tengan caridad, no podais ser de Dios entonces haced lo que Dios nos ha mandado. oh hermanos,
adios pues adios

March 14

That's too bad about Tucker, I have nightmares that kind of stuff could happen to me in the mission, and even if it isn't something entirely serious it could result in something wrong, you never know, and with it being out of country is a little more scary, but its Mexico, its almost like the USA, just not as clean and they all speak spanish. But the Presidents of the Missions know what they´re doing and where people should go for medical help and he´s a missionary and the Lord needs him so it will all be fine, he´s in better hands then Allstate insurance.

The week was a little better, with some people we found and taught, and yesterday the attendance was 89 people instead of the 60 people average, I feel like things are picking up and they finally started putting in mutuals for the jovenes so I think the people are starting to be a little more excited with the church and the Work. And yes President Call knows the standings here, and the Stake President is watching over things more now in the ward.
Elder Palestino bought me a Mexican Soccer shirt for my birthday, its authentic. I was excited, he´s a good missionary we get along well.
I dont know if I've expressed how much I do not like looking at all the abominations down here from the Santos to the Santa Muerte people and their ridiculous beliefs. We've had encounters this week with less actives that believe in the Santa Muerte, the belief is basically if you pray to the devil and give up things of valor to him, he gives you what you want, its horrible, its exactly what John the Beloved talks about in Revelations about Satan working miracles in the last days and people believing and following.

but ya thats Mexico, the people are really supersticious, really really supersticious and are crazy with their crazy creencias so thats my crazy week

and Jake needs to change his baseball form on the mound, and use more his legs hahaha
have a good one

March 7

Well this week on paper didn't seem so great, but it was one of the better weeks here. Except Oswaldo was taken away Monday, his uncles came in and took him to live for a little while until he gets all the paper work figured out to go live in the US of A, I was really upset. But we've had more meetings with ward leaders to help figure out what we can do to conquer satan in barrio Tancol. I really hope that all you up there are humble, don't offend people, don't talk bad about your leaders or other ward members and follow the order of the church, love one another, and magnify your callings and actually be members of the church of The Lamb. Why dont you all study Mosiah 3 :19 and think and ponder about it and describe every atritbute that it talks about and then what the opposite would be for example humble submissive meek loving etc.and look up in preach my gospel the christlike atributes and share it in family home eveing. and study 1 Nefi 22 and focus in everything going on and then how we can compare ourselves, being members in the church, to verse 26.

I would hope that you are all more worried about serving God than the world and visiting less actives and those that don't go to church and need help. It all starts with a smile and love, our love for God, the Love He gives us, and our desire to reflect His love and share it with others.
